October 28, 2010

SEO stands for Ssearch Engine Optimization. It is the process of optimizing your website so that it ranks well on search engine result pages (or SERPs) such as Google, Yahoo and Bing.

Simply put, you have a website that you want to be found by the search engines. Search engines provide the people looking for products and services online with results. You want your information (let’s say your product or service) to be pulled from the pile of other sites and pages and offered to the person seeking information. The way you achieve this is by making your page or site relevant to what people are looking for.

When someone types a word or phrase into search engines (like Google) looking for your product, you want to appear on the first or second page of the search results listings on search engines. The result that appears from the “free”, “natural”, or “organic” listings.

There are more 18 billion different websites that are relevant to the search query, but really, if your website doesn’t appear in the first 10 pages (or first 100 results), it’s invisible to the world.
